Sofia Vokalensemble tog den 17 april 2011 hem Grand Prix i 11th International Choral Competition i Maribor, Slovenien, i konkurrens med kvalificerade körer från bland annat Spanien, Tyskland och Filippinerna. Kören vann också publikens pris och ytterligare tre specialpriser.
– Vår sceniska närvaro och klang gjorde starkt intryck på både juryn och publiken, säger Bengt Ollen, körens grundare och dirigent. Segern innebär att Sofia Vokalensemble är kvalificerad till den stora finalen av European Grand Prix for Choral singing i april 2012.
Priser till Sofia Vokalensemble och Bengt Ollén:
- 1st place GRAND PRIX WINNER (93,5 poäng)
- Award to the conductor for the best performance of composition by Jacobus Gallus (In hac die Christophorus)
- Award to the conductor for the best interpretation of compulsory contemporary Slovenian compostition (Uroš Krek: ŠKRINJA OREHOVA, folk song from the neighbourhood of Trieste)
- The memorial award of public to the best choir of their choice at the opening concert
- Prize given by the Panel of Slovene conductors for the most original concept and convincing performance at the opening concert
