Tonight it’s finally time for the sold out opening performance of “Oedipus Rex / Symphony of Psalms” by Igor Stravinsky! The performance opens this year’s Baltic Sea Festival with Esa-Pekka Salonen as conductor and Peter Sellars as stage director. We share the stage with the Kungliga Hovkapellet, Orphei Drängar and the ladies of Gustaf Sjökvists Kammarkör. Sveriges Radio P2 will broadcast this live starting at 18:55 CET.
On June 8th we hold our traditional summer evening concert in Sofia church! The concert program includes the Swedish composer Ludvig Norman’s motet for double choir “Jordens Oro Viker”. We also performed the piece on May 24th at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.

After a couple of intense days in London the ladies of Sofia Vokalensemble are at home again. The performance on Thursday at Royal Festival Hall was gripping, emotional and got standing ovations. This is from theartsdesk.com
“The Symphony of Psalms, which ended the Philharmonia’s Stravinsky series last night, is an indelible masterpiece, silencing the tired but persistent accusation that Stravinsky’s music is clever but cold. Abstract it may be, but suffused with an exile’s deep longing, spritual hope rising in harmonies of heart-stopping consolation until that final, revelatory C major chord. This performance (with three Swedish choirs) was of focused beauty and searing sincerity; I have never heard better. Its radical scoring sounded afresh, while spine-tingling intonation and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen’s unforced mastery lent the whole a visionary power.”
We are very happy and grateful to have taken part of this fantastic production together with Orphei Drängar, ladies of Gustaf Sjökvists Kammarkör, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Peter Sellars. BBC Radio 3 sent the concert live and it’s online for another month.
